Quizzing the children
Sudha Umashankar told the story of Madras followed by a ‘Guess this landmark quiz’ and invited suggestions for a birthday gift for the city from three groups of children gathered at Storycorner at Bookmine, Sevalaya, and Akshara Arbol International School.
She writes, “The Akshara Arbol children didn’t know how to react when I told them the land on which their school stood was once the Long Tank!”
A teacher comments, “It was indeed a resourceful session for all of us! I am sure this learning will facilitate keen observation of places around us and start wondering on their history. We hope to build on this knowledge and support students to become responsible and help preserve these heritage buildings.”
Sevalaya’s V. Muniyammal (VII B) says, “I learnt something different apart from my social text book.” And M. Jeeva (VIII A) adds, “After this storytelling session, I took a decision to keep my city clean. This is my gift for Madras’s Birthday.”
