Relaying of roads

The relaying of roads in Chennai after the floods testifies to the fact that the authorities are either blind to the welfare of the people or are hand in glove with the contractors responsible for the work.

In most places, especially in the interior, roads are being laid without milling the old layer. Such a practice over the years that raises road level way above the floor level of houses has been identified as a major cause for the inundation and continued water logging in residential areas.

However the authorities are least concerned and are carrying out the relaying of roads again without milling. Won’t the Government think of the people’s plight even after the calamity of just a few weeks ago?

An extra leap

Thank you very much for the ‘Dates for Your Diary’ column (MM, February 16th). I found I had no entries in my diary for February 30th. Now I know – I will go to Apparao Galleries and be there for the last day of the Tree of Life exhibition.

Questionable mark

With the printer’s devil at work, a question mark that should not have been there found itself added to the heading ‘Entrepreneur’s progress’ (MM, February 16th). Our apologies to the sucessful entrepreneur.
