Bird Walk at Perumbakkam Tank – 15.08.2024

It was a bright, sunny morning. 25 members of the public gathered together in front of the Perumbakkam Tank, opposite the Sholinganallur Elcot IT Park, to participate in the Walk led by Sudarmani.

Many of them were birding for the first time and found the whole experience different and enjoyable as Fulvous Whistling Ducks flew overhead whistling, a Bronze-winged Jacana flitted in and out of the Taifa Reeds along with its chick, a Black Kite swooped down causing a flutter among the Coots and Black-winged Kites and a flock of Glossy Ibis formed a V as they flew by. In all, the participants spotted 33 species.
Sudar was ably assisted by ‘Poochi’ Venkat, Loganathan and Vipin Shankar.

Shore Walk at Elliot’s Beach – 24.08.2024

Standing near the Karl Schmidt Memorial on Elliot’s Beach were 16 adults and 4 children holding in their palms the beach sand, while Yuvan, who led the Walk explained to them its features.

The group then walked ahead close to the shore when Yuvan made everyone look at the waves and explained to them the movements of the currents using a chart. Reaching the dockyard, Yuvan asked everyone to look around and gather two samples each of bivalves and gastropods. The group then sat in a circle and played a game to feel and guess a few of the gathered specimens. Claudia, Aravind Selvam, Gowtham and Sheila assisted.
